Witnessing to God’s faithfulness in our lives

Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me. Deuteronomy 4:10

“As we tell of our great God’s majesty, mercy, and intimate love, our convictions and the faith of others can be strengthened by the confirmation of His enduring trustworthiness.” Xochitl Dixon

God is a god of wonders. He has done so many great things for us. It reminds me of the song “Count Your Blessings” by Johnson Oatman, Jr.

“Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

However, just like the Israelites, we are forgetful. Sometimes our current circumstances tempt us to feel overwhelmed and forget the faithfulness and goodness of God who has brought us through so much already! Our God is a good God. But it’s something we must remind ourselves about. We are so easily turned to believe the worst in others and even God. We forget to remember that God is faithful.

Therefore the words from Deuteronomy are helpful today. We are to gather, in person, or in word or in spirit. We can even gather online! We assembly for a particular reason: to remind ourselves what God has already done for us. To hear one another’s witness to the truth of that which God has done in our lives. How he has saved us and loved us and cared for us! It is like a great library that goes on forever and ever the stories of his goodness for us.

We do that so as our passage says, “we may learn to revere him.” Today, remember what God has done for you, personally and what he has done for all of us. He sent his son to save us! To bring the light into the world. To be the lamb of God who was slain for us, so we might not have to die but have life, life to the full and life everlasting!

Today friends, Count your blessings! Remember all the good things the Lord has done for you. Share that with a friend, with your spouse, with your children or even with a neighbor. Praise the living God today because of all the good things God has done for you and for me!

Prayer from the devotional: Sovereign God, thank You for empowering me to walk with sure-footed faith that crosses generational lines.

Heavenly Father, thank you for caring for us and doing so much good for us! Thank you for your loving kindness and faithfulness throughout our lives!
