I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power… to grasp… the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:17-18
I’ve never been much of a gardener. To be honest, I don’t think I have the patience to be one. To tenderly, lovingly watch over a lot wondering if something is going to grow or not, would drive me insane. We’re in the midst of re-doing some of our landscaping in the front and back yards. Our front yard, has no grass. But, fingers crossed, we’ll have some in a few weeks. It’s only been a few days and there is nothing as boring as watching grass grow (besides watching paint dry).
Sometimes, the good news of the gospel takes a while to plant in our lives for us to see the greenery. That is, the beautiful of the gospel seed in our lives fully lived out and mature bringing forth all it’s good fruit. It does help to make sure that your life is planted somewhere helpful, say God’s love.
“Growing spiritually requires rooting into the love of God – meditating on the truth that we are beloved by the God who is able to do ‘immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine’ (v20). What an incredible basis for our faith!” Amy Peterson
If we’re not planted in the Love of God where will we draw our strength from? Where will we gather our nutrients for our lives? How will we keep everything together? Will you rely on your own well? Will you rely on your own strength to make it through the most difficult times and beyond even those?
Sure perhaps you say, ‘I’ve done it my entire life, I can continue to do so still.’ But how long O Man will that keep you. How long will you be able to do that without great repercussions? Are you sure you’re willing to make this bet that you’ll survive all alone by the might of your own strength? And what bet are you making? To ‘make it’ in life? To be successful? To defeat death itself? What is the end goal of your life O man?
No friends, only the love of God can defeat the demons in our lives. Only the gospel can save us from hell. Only the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross will atone for the things we’ve done against God. Put your trust in Him today. Put your hope in Him today. Root yourself in the Love of God as your firm foundation today!
Prayer for the day: “God, thank You for Your love for me. Help me to meditate on the truth of that love. May Your love grow in my heart, bringing beauty to my life and to a world in need.”
