Bring Your Prayers. Bring Your Praises Also

Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted
Psalm 148:13

“Psalm 148 is a prayer of praise. The psalmist encourages all of creation to ‘praise the name of the LORD, for at his command [everything was] created’ (V.5), ‘for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens’ (V.13).” Xochitl Dixon

There are many things that happen in our lives that call for prayer. Many might think that the main reason we might call upon prayer is because we are in need of something from God.

  • If you are in a financial need, pray to God
  • If you’re in a health crisis, pray to God
  • If your family member is in danger, pray to God

And although all of these reasons to pray to God, we are not only to call on God in the difficult times in our life. God is a crutch for the Christ follower because we know He is the only one who can hold us up through our brokenness and sinfulness. However, that is only one side of the coin.

We are to also call upon God in the good times, not just to hard times. We are to call upon him in the exciting times, the mundane times, the boring times and the times of uncertainty. God is there in your life in every instance, moment and season of your life. We can always call on Him, yet in better seasons we don’t. Whether that is because we can ‘handle’ life on our own at that point, or because we forget He’s there, it’s something we must be mindful of.

I think the honest truth is that when we are at the end of our rope, it feels much easier to reach out for help. When we are in the exciting times, mundane times, boring times, it is much easier to let our thoughts drift and allow anything and everything else take space in our mind, other than bring ourselves into the throne room of God.

We are to bring our praises to God daily. We are to thank Him, not only for the small blessings in our life but for the great news that Jesus came, lived and saved us all those years ago. That should be the center of our day, every day, every morning, afternoon and evening. So, take inventory of the thoughts that come through your mind every day. We might have to once again turn back to God in our day to day life and once again allow praise to flow from our lips.

Prayer of the day: “Help me praise You with every breath You’ve given me, God.
